The five members of the Board of Supervisors have direct authority over land use in unincorporated areas. The Board of Supervisors will hold study sessions to provide input into the Envision Contra Costa 2040 project at key milestones, and will ultimately adopt the General Plan, Zoning Code, and Climate Action Plan.
The seven-member Planning Commission advises and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors on General Plan and zoning issues. The Planning Commission will hold study sessions to provide input into the Envision Contra Costa 2040 project at key milestones.
The Sustainability Commission advises the Board of Supervisors on topics like the Climate Action Plan, equity and fairness in the County’s sustainability programs, and outreach, and will periodically meet to provide input into the Envision Contra Costa 2040 project.
Municipal Advisory Councils (MACs) are appointed by the Board of Supervisors and advise the Board on community-specific matters. The Board has established MACs in the following communities: Alamo, Bay Point, Bethel Island, Byron, Diablo, Discovery Bay, East Richmond Heights, El Sobrante, Kensington, Knightsen, North Richmond, Pacheco, and Rodeo.
Other commissions and committees provide recommendations and advise the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors on matters relating to their specific interest within the County.
Throughout the Envision Contra Costa 2040 process, we will hold community-focused meetings in various unincorporated communities throughout the county. Click here for a list of the communities where we anticipate holding a community-focused meeting.
Open house events will focus on countywide issues, like mobility, housing, sustainability, and economic development. For each series, we will hold an open house at a western, central, and eastern county location.
Meetings focused on specific issues, like environmental justice and economic development, will be held during this process.
